Jamestown Show

The local Jamestown Show is held on the October long weekend. It is an important event for our community, bringing people together in a fun-filled atmosphere; promoting agriculture, local produce and business, talent and skills. Our school strongly supports the Show. We encourage students to enter into all of the competitions, displays and events. A section of the pavilion is devoted to our school display which showcases student work samples from throughout the year as well as photos of events and activities.

ANZAC Day & Remembrance Day

Learning about Australian history is part of the Australian Curriculum and even more important is putting this knowledge into a meaningful context. Each year, as a school, we join with the wider community for the ANZAC day and Remembrance Day services. Students are encouraged to attend the ANZAC Dawn Service with their families (this usually falls in the school holidays) and as a whole school we attend the Remembrance Day service when it falls in the school week. Both services are held at the local Memorial Park and our School Captains lay a wreath on behalf of our school to show our respect and thanks for all who have served and continue to serve our country.

Local Visits

We have a great Community Library within walking distance of our school. Some classes visit to help students be aware of other resources available in our community that complement our own school resources.

Classes visit Belalie Lodge (aged-care facility) with the CWL group; they spend time with the residents, read and sing to them.

Students in our Choir visit the Hospital and Belalie Lodge to present items and spend time with residents, we usually do this twice a year.

Tree Planting

Each year Toyota and Planet Ark sponsor community tree planting that a class takes part in. An area is designated by the local Council and we join together to plant up and make our environment a nicer place.

Schools Clean Up Australia

Another annual event held in March is Schools Clean Up Australia Day. In negotiation with the local Council each class works on picking up rubbish and cleaning up the area. Areas we have worked in have been Belalie Creek, the Skate Park, the parklands across the road from our school.

We are all called to be stewards of creation, care for our world and make it a better and sustainable place for all.

Sport & Leisure

There are many sport and leisure activities and community events on offer in Jamestown and surrounding districts. Whenever there is the opportunity to be involved, St James School will be there!
