Bishop and Catholic Education Director visit to St. James School

Bishop Karol Kulczycki, Bishop of the Diocese of Pt. Pirie, visited St James School for the first time since becoming a Bishop. He was accompanied by Mrs Nichii Mardon—Director of Catholic Education Pt. Pirie. They visited on Friday 14th May. A Bishop’s visit is a special occasion for our school as he is our spiritual leader and guide for our Diocese. He was welcomed by the staff and students at a special assembly. He spoke about his childhood, his time as a priest and about being a Bishop. The students were able to ask the Bishop questions, which included;

What is your favourite colour?

Who is your boss?

Have you been to the Vatican and met the Pope?

The School Captains presented a gift pack with symbolic items from St James and the Jamestown region. Following the assembly, Bishop Karol and Nichii Mardon toured the school, meeting students in class. The Bishop was very impressed with our school and our very well behaved and calm students. It was a memorable occasion and we are grateful to have had a visit from Bishop Karol.

Transition for Reception 2021

16 Kindy students who will begin Reception at St James in 2021 will start their Transition Sessions next week. They will visit each Tuesday, beginning with a session from 9:00 to the end of recess at 11:20. The following session will be until the end of lunch at 1:45 and the final visit will be for the full day. These students will need to bring a hat, recess, fruit snack and can wear casual clothes. We a very much looking forward to hosting our next Reception Class during their visits.

Congratulations to all the children who attended the Catholics Athletics carnival last Thursday in Adelaide. It was a very long day but also a very rewarding and enjoyable one. The children displayed great sportsmanship and competed strongly in all their events. Some students even helped out filling events in age groups above them. Overall, our boys team came 2nd out of 6 schools and our girls team came 3rd out of 6 schools, a great effort! Our Year 7 Girls and our Year 7 Boys teams also took out the pennant for the best performing school in their age groups.

Year 6/7 Camp

The Year 6/7 students attended their Surf and Adventure Camp during the second half of last week. They travelled to Chiton Rocks Surf Club, Victor Harbor and took part in surf lessons, raft building and a range of team building activities. They also spent time playing games on the beach.
