Week 8 Term 2, 2025
Heavenly Father,
You are the source of all love and life.
Jesus the Son, you walk with us, showing us how to love and serve.
Holy Spirit, you guide our hearts and minds with wisdom and peace.
We thank You, O Holy Trinity,
for the mystery of Your presence,
the strength of Your unity,
and the beauty of Your love.
Help our school to be a place of peace, learning, and kindness.
Teach us to live in harmony, just as You live in perfect unity.
May we always reflect Your love in our thoughts, words, and actions.
Amen.
Dear Families,
It’s hard to believe we are already in Week 8 of the term! Time is flying, and as I walk around the school, I’m constantly reminded of how much has already been accomplished this term, both in the classroom and across our wider school community.
This week is an exciting one for our Year 5/6 class, who head off on camp this Wednesday. Camp is always a highlight of the year and offers so many benefits. Beyond just the fun and adventure. It gives students the chance to get to know each other in new ways, even if they’ve been at school together for years. Sharing new experiences, working together, and facing challenges outside of the classroom help build resilience, teamwork, and confidence. I’m very much looking forward to joining them for the second half of the camp and sharing in the experience.
We also take this opportunity to wish Fr Harold a safe and restful trip as he travels away for the next three months. We thank him for his continued support of our school community and look forward to welcoming him back later in the year.
Thank you for your ongoing support and involvement in school life, it’s what helps make our community so strong.
Year 3/4 Class Mass
Next Friday (Week 9), the Year 3/4 Class will be leading us in Mass in the church at 9:30am. All family members and parishioners are most welcome to join us for our last Mass of the term.
Sacrament of Reconciliation
Congratulations to the 14 students who received the Sacrament of Reconciliation recently. This was a very special occasion for many students and their families in our parish. Thank you to Ms O’Reilley and Mr Taylor for their support in preparing these children for their first reconciliation with Father Harold.

Emu Crossing Reminder
We’d like to take a moment to remind everyone about the importance of using the Emu Crossing safely and correctly outside our school.
The Emu Crossing is an essential part of ensuring the safety of our students, staff, and families during drop-off and pick-up times. To keep everyone safe, please be aware of the following guidelines:
Drivers must stop when the crossing flags are displayed, and a pedestrian is waiting to cross or is already on the crossing.
Pedestrians should only cross when it is safe to do so and always use the marked lines of the crossing.
Be alert and patient—children may not always be visible or predictable.
We ask all drivers to take extra care, slow down, and remain vigilant around school zones—especially during busy morning and afternoon periods.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us keep our students safe.
Uniform Update
We had a huge response to our new school beanie design. Judy is ordering these and we hope to have them at school early next term. A huge thankyou to our Parents and Friends Committee who have heavily subsidised the cost of the beanies for this year.
The students have been told that we will be lenient on what beanies they are currently wearing until our new school ones arrive, but once they do, the school beanie is the only one we will accept being worn at school.
SACPSSA Netball Carnival Monday 30th June
This year students from Years 4, 5 and 6 are attending the Catholic Schools Netball Carnival in Adelaide. The teams have been created with Year 5 and 6 students, with some Year 4 students filling the gaps to create a full team. Thank you to the Year 4s that have put their hands up to play.
We are excited to take part in one of these carnivals this year and give this experience to both the boys and girls in these year levels.
Kids in Space Showcase
Next Tuesday 5 students from the Year 5/6 class will be attending the Kids in Space showcase in Adelaide. This is a fantastic opportunity for these students to share some of the learning that has been happening in the Year 5/6 class this semester in Digital Technologies. The students have been exploring 3D printing through using the Makers Empire program. We look forward to sharing more about this experience in the Week 10 Newsletter.
SAPSASA Cross Country
Congratulations to Bentley C and Denzel F who participated in SAPSASA Cross Country in Week 6.
It was fun because I got to run 2 kms and I came 111th out of 190 poeple in my age group. - Denzel
At the Cross Country there were 250 people competing in my race, I came 149th. The day was extremely fun filled with lots of schools cheering on their team. Denzel and I were proud of our performances and had a fantastic day - Bentley
Last week our Year 5/6 class were lucky enough to spend 2 days at JCS, one day playing Tag Rugby and the other day for our ‘Mastermind’ transition. For the Tag Rugby Day we got to play 9 games each against schools from all over the Northern Areas. We had lots of fun learning the game, getting some trys and having a day in the sun. Both of our St James Boys Teams (Year 4-6) took away a trophy for their overall values shown on the day, this was a wonderful achievement.
On Friday, we returned for another fun-filled day for Mastermind. On this day we did quizzes, soccer, tag-rugby and games. Our favourite part of the day was getting to know JCS students, teachers and the school better as well as getting to have a yummy lunch.
- Colbie and Teddy

This semester the Year 3 and 4 students have been working on developing solutions to combat oceanic pollution in our seas. They have been working through the 5 stages of the ‘design-thinking process’ to plan and create effective solutions to this huge issue facing our world. Here is how they have worked through the design-thinking process to generate these solutions.
Stage 1: Empathise
The students, through their studies of food chains in Science, chose an animal they wanted to try and help protect from pollution.
Stage 2: Define
They then defined exactly what problem they were trying to solve. Some opted to try and clean up pollution already in the seas, while others opted to clean it up on land and near rivers in an effort to prevent it ever reaching the ocean.
Stage 3: Ideate
The students then came up with 5 different solutions, drawing up a sketch of each and labelling their design with its different parts and purpose. Following this, they chose their 3 favourite ideas to present to the class. Their peers then voted for their favourite idea, and this became the solution they would move forwards with.
Stage 4: Prototype
The students then designed a detailed version of their chosen design. Having spoken with their teacher, they then used Maker’s Empire software to generate a 3-D render of their creation, which was then 3-D printed using the school’s Flashforge Adventurer 3-D printers.
Stage 5: Test
The students then discussed with their teacher the improvements they thought they could make to their design in order to improve its effectiveness in combatting ocean pollution. After making these changes, another discussion was held, and once the final finishing touches were made, the final version of the machine was 3-D printed to display at school!
Salad Trays will only be offered in Terms 1 and 4. You would’ve also noticed a rise in the Tuck prices this is due to rising costs. **Please note we run to cover our costs and not for profit**
