Week 4 Term 2, 2025
We take this opportunity to pray for our new Pope Leo XIV and for the Universal Church.
O God, shepherd and ruler of all the faithful, look favourably on your servant Pope Leo XIV, whom you have set at the head of your Church as her shepherd;grant, we pray, that by word and example he may be of service to those over whom he presides so that, together with the flock entrusted to his care, he may come to everlasting life.Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.
Last week was Catholic Education Week, and further into this newsletter, Ally has given a rundown of how we celebrated at St James.
Towards the end of Catholic Education Week, the CESA Catholic Education Awards night was held, and I had the privilege of attending. This night was a truly uplifting celebration of the outstanding individuals who bring our Catholic schools to life.
I was inspired by each of the worthy recipients. Their stories spoke of commitment, compassion, and a deep love for their work in Catholic education. What stood out most was the genuine joy and purpose they expressed in their roles, whether as teachers, support staff, leaders, or volunteers. It was clear that for each of them, their work is more than a job, it is a calling.
The night served as a powerful reminder of the impact we can all have in shaping hearts and minds through faith-filled learning. I returned feeling proud to be part of the Catholic education community and more motivated than ever to continue walking alongside our students, families, and colleagues with purpose and hope.
This week is also National Volunteers Week, and it's a timely opportunity to acknowledge the incredible contribution of our volunteers here at St James. As I’ve said before, the volunteer support in our school community is truly outstanding. And we are so fortunate to have such generous and dedicated people giving their time and energy so freely.
We are truly grateful for all you do, thank you for the love and support you show our school every day.

CATHOLIC EDUCATION WEEK
Last week we celebrated Catholic Education Week. This was a fantastic opportunity for us to reflect on and celebrate what makes being a part of a Catholic School so great. This year’s theme Catholic Education SA wide was, “Shine with Open Hearts”. Students engaged in a variety of activities that enabled them to shine with open hearts and be a living example of Jesus, by opening their hearts to care for others, creation and their broader community.
During this week, all students were also involved in a new project for our school yard. They reused and painted some of the old pallets that were still in reasonable condition from the chook yard with bright and bold colours, with words that describes our community here at St James. In the coming weeks we will plant some new seeds and plants in these to remind us that we can continue to shine, by planting new seeds that will continue to grow in years to come.
We finished the week with an incredible day out at Bundaleer Forest, starting with Mass celebrated with Father Harold and led by the Reception Class. We were blessed with beautiful weather and the joyful sounds of birds chirping and children playing. The students loved exploring the forest, engaging with each other and immersing themselves in nature.

PROJECT COMPASSION
We just wanted to express our deepest gratitude and thanks to each and every one of our community members that contributed to our donation towards Project Compassion last term. We raised over $1200, which was an incredible effort!
MINI VINNIES
Thank you for supporting our recent Vinnie’s Winter Appeal by bringing in Cans and Non-perishable Items to donate to St Vincent De Paul.
We are excited to announce that Mini Vinnies is up and running again this term and we look forward to working with the students who have volunteered to give back to our community and those that need it most.
PARENT AND STUDENT INFORMATION SESSION – SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION
Just a reminder that we are hosting a parent and student information session this Wednesday 21st May at 6pm in the Learning Centre for students in Year 3 and 4 who are undertaking the Sacrament of Reconciliation. We thank those families who have indicated on the Operoo form their students participation in the Sacraments this year. Please let the front office staff know if you are unable to attend on Wednesday night.
MOTHER’S DAY MASS AND MORNING TEA
Thank you to the year 1/2 Class and Miss Cheriton for leading us in our special Mother’s Day Mass on Friday of Week 2, followed by a lovely morning tea. We are thankful to all the special mother figures in our students lives that joined us.

THANKYOU
Do you throw away your egg cartons and newspapers? If so, we would love to reuse them instead. Please place them in the labelled black tubs under the windows in the Art Room. Thanks.
